The participants had four abstract questions to answer through their photographs - how would you have portrayed the questions below?

BEFORE THE DAY

The Shoot Nations 2007 on-line competition attracted over 1500 entries from 85 countries around the world.

The Ouaga workshop and exhibition was the penultimate leg of the four country tour that aims to give the entries some global exposure and explore the theme of governance physically with young people in workshops in each country.

The workshop was open to young people from 11 - 24. Participants worked in teams on a mini 'Shoot Experience' photographic event in the morning, getting out onto the streets with their cameras and depicting governance related questions through photography. The afternoon was spent looking at all the photographs and discussing ideas and stimuli in groups. Winners were chosen and selected photos were displayed at the private view.

The day was incredible. 85 super enthusiastic kids arrived and we schooled them in on the cameras before sending them into the centre of Ouga to take their photographs. Despite the 40 degree heat teams returned energized and eager to explain the meanings behind their shots and their hopes for the future.

The exhibition was extremely well-attended as it formed part of the UN West African conference on the Rights of the Child. Even the President of Burkina breezed through and enjoyed the photos on his way! All the images from the day of course feature in our Photos section.
