SHOOT NATIONS
Our global on-line photography competition for youth (11-24) returns this year, bigger, better, bolder and bolshier than ever.

We believe images speak louder than words, harnessing a cross-cultural power that is second to none.

The competition opens on June 15th so you have two options for action:

If you're between the ages of 11 and 24...
...pick up your camera and tell us what matters to you, what’s right and what’s wrong in your world and how you would make a difference.

If you older than 24...
...then live vicariously through a young person you know, put a camera in their hand and tell them all about the competition!

Selected photos will be exhibited at the United Nations headquarters in New York City on International Youth Day.

SHOOT PORTOBELLO PRIVATE VIEW
We rounded off Shoot Portobello with the Private View last Tuesday. The chink of beer bottle cheers could be heard from the top floor of the Trellick Tower and the smell of freshly baked goodies wafted into the street where the crowd spilled out into the late Spring sunshine. It was a truly happy occasion.

One more very big thank you to Rough Trade, Coffee Plant and Gail's bakery for hosting the event - as one punter put it "a photography exhibition in a bakery... genius!"

WE ARE EXCITED ABOUT...
SHOOT TORONTO!!
As we are sure you have heard, this weekend is the beginning of our overseas escapade.

Will the Canadians be as creative and adventurous as their London counterparts? Will they take to the Water theme like a duck to a pond? And will Saturday's launch party be as hot as we have been warned? So many questions. We will report back.

SHOOT TORONTO - May 5th & 6th  

The Canadian events are part of Contact photography festival which attracts over a million serious snappers to the city in a month. So we reckon there will be some pretty exciting and imaginative photographs to come out of the events.

AOP OPEN AWARDS
As the name would suggest, the latest competition from the Association of Photographers is open to all - the aim is simply to celebrate the diversity of photography and embrace beautiful images from professionals and amateurs alike.

The competition fits nicely with our ethos and that's why we like it. We firmly believe it is time, place and imagination that make a great photo and the perfect combination of all three can be found by anyone everyday if we only open our eyes.

THE CONSTRUCTED IMAGE: PHOTOGRAPHIC CULTURE
As we soak up Toronto this weekend we will be paying a visit to the main Contact festival exhibition. It boasts an eclectic selection of the work of today's finest photographers - from the confusing reality of Thomas Demand's mesmerising paper landscapes to Sam Taylor Wood, successfully representing the UK with her emotionally charged enigmatic shots.

For those of you not in Toronto this month there is an interesting essay available to download as an accompaniment to the exhibition. 'Interesting' and 'essay' may not sound like your cup of tea but take a chance, it beats the Metro.
